In Sampler, paired rectangles come together, introducing a distinctive weave as they overlap.
This dynamic design is inspired by samplers that were used to learn and demonstrate darning: a sewing technique for repairing holes or worn areas in fabric by replicating the structure of the original material. Dating back to at least the 18th century, these samplers typically covered small pieces of cloth in darning "blocks" of various weave structures in a variety of colors—especially blue, green, red, and yellow yarns—to make intricacies visible and show the weaver's skill.

Cleaning
- Cleaning is easy. Simply wipe the mat with soap and water, and allow to air dry.
- Mats with visible food residue can be sprayed with soapy water, scrubbed with a soft-bristle brush, or soaked in soapy water and then rinsed.
- Do not clean with alcohol-based cleaning agents, as they can break down TerraStrand yarns over time.
- Citrus-based cleaning agents are also not recommended, as they can cause discoloration.
- Do not wash in dishwasher or washing machine. Do not iron or dry with heat. A high-temperature sanitizer may be used up to once per week.
Storage
- Store Chilewich placemats flat.
- Table runners may be rolled.
- Do not store wet or allow mats to fold or crease.
- In case of creasing, steam using a handheld garment steamer on the lowest heat setting.
